What is Hair Transplantation with the FUT Technique?

What is Hair Transplantation with the FUT Technique?

It is also known as the strip method. The FUT method is a method of transferring hair roots in clusters, not individually. Hair roots are harvested in a manner so as to make each piece have between 1 and 4 hair roots. The clusters of hair must be created under the microscope and must be separated. The FUT method is the method in which hair roots taken from the circular area behind the head and between the two ears are transplanted.

Hair transplantation via the FUT method was carried out very much in the past, however, with the advance of technology and the discovery of new methods, it is no longer chosen very often.

The most obvious difference between the FUT method and the FUE method is the method of extraction of hair from different types of scalps. The hair transplantation methods that are applied afterwards are the same.

How is the FUT Technique Implemented?

The FUT technique is a manner of transplanting hair roots onto the bald area after obtaining them in clusters, not individually. In the FUT technique, hair roots taken from the circular area behind the head and between the two ears are transplanted. The area of hair at the nape of the neck between the two ears is shaven to make the hair be a length of 2 to 5 millimetres and the area from which the removal is going to be taken is determined.

The doctor will determine how many grafts to take depending on the level of baldness of the area onto which the transplantation is going to be carried out. Afterwards, anaesthesia is applied.

Generally, in this kind of procedures, local anaesthesia is chosen. Afterwards, the pieces of tissue are taken out in a sterile manner and prepared for transplantation. The thing to take care of during this process is to make the incisions parallel to the exit point angles of the hairs in order to achieve less scarring.

The area from which the grafts have been taken is closed up with stitches. Afterwards, your doctor will determine the lines in the area where the hair is to be transplanted onto and will apply local anaesthesia to that area. Canals are opened in the area where anaesthesia has been applied in order to place the grafts and the transplantation is carried out.

The average duration for the operation is 3 to 5 hours. In order for the patient to be comfortable throughout the whole night and for the stitches not to come undone, it is necessary to apply a tampon bandage on the posterior side where the area the grafts were taken from is.

The bandages are removed the next day. you cab find out more about ON THE DAY OF THE HAIR TRANSPLANT

After the operation, the patient may experience complain of pain.

In operations carried out with the FUT technique, the area where the transplantation is carried out begins to scab over the second day after the operation.

The first wash is carried out on the third day. The first wash must be carried out by an expert team. Afterwards, this process must be repeated once a day. At the end of the first week, the scabs will start to fall off.

Two weeks after the operation, your stitches will be taken out. 48 to 72 hours after the operation, swelling can occur starting from the forehead and sometimes going down to the eyelids and beard area.

This will disappear by itself within 2 or 3 days. After these procedures, the transplanted hair will start to fall out. However, this is an expected situation.

New hair will start to grow out in place of the hair that fell out. It will take six months for your hair to start coming out. But it will take one year for them to take their final shape.

With the many methods developed in our times, it has lost its popularity and is not chosen very often, and has started to fall into disuse.

DISADVANTAGES OF THE FUT METHOD

  • Many ingrown hairs will occur when the hair starts to come out.
  • With the FUT method, because the hair is taken in strips together with the skin from the base of the nape, all the good quality and bad quality hairs in the piece taken in the form of a strip will be transplanted.
  • With the FUT method, because the grafts are taken together with the skin, a scar of 15 to 20 centimetres will be occur in the place where it was taken.
  • 300-500 ml of bleeding will occur in applications that use the FUT method.
  • With the FUT technique, there will be a loss of ten to fifteen days of work.
  • While 160 roots per square centimetre can be transplanted in the FUE technique, in the FUT technique, 40 to 60 roots per square centimetre can be transplanted.
  • Pits will be observable in the roots of the hair.
  • Hair will be transplanted at a 90-degree angle to the skin and will grow out upwards completely straight.
  • Because it is in the form of a skin transplant, the corona will widen by 20-30 centimetres squared.
  • Transplantation can only be made on the place where the hair has fallen out and all the transplanted hair will fall out temporarily.
  • There will be a feeling of numbness for around 4 to 8 months at the nape of the neck.
  • An average of 80% of the hair that is taken can be transplanted, and 15 to 30% of it will die at the time of sorting.
  • 70 to 80 hairs will grow out of every 100 hairs transplanted, and a portion of those that have been made to wait for 2 to 3 hours will die.
  • While grafts taken with the FUE technique are transplanted within ten minutes, for the FUT technique, are made to wait in an external environment for up to three hours.
  • In the FUE technique, only quality hairs and those that do not fall out will be taken and while being transplanted, hairs are not separated in the Fut technique.
  • There will be exaggerated swelling around the eyes.
  • A minimum of 700 roots and a maximum of 2,000 to 3,000 roots can be transplanted in one session. No more can be transplanted. Moreover, the cost is the same.
  • The second session may take place after waiting for two or three months.
  • A high quantity of numbing medicine will be given.
  • The operation is painful and the risk of infection is high.
  • After the operation, bandaging is needed for 10-15 days.
